Village parents are reluctant to allow children, particularly girls, to travel on public transport or walk miles to school. Public transport is overcrowded and irregular.  Bus routes may not go near a village. Rickshaw drivers are reluctant to leave the city and are expensive. These difficulties soon became evident in the high absence rates of village pupils.  The solution is school buses. The absence rate of village pupils has plummeted so that the exam results for village pupils are now as good as those of city pupils.  ManASVI raises £2400/year to cover the cost of daily transport for nearly 90 children (2010-2011)
