Dr Mishra giving health education to village women
Many common infections and medical conditions that effect rural village populations are easily preventable but village women must know where the dangers lie, how infections are caused, and how to prevent them.
Living conditions in poorer and more remote villages is a world of wells, latrine pits, no domestic running water, no refrigeration, soap a costly item brought from outside, cooking by clay hearths on the floor, extremes of climate, middens, open drains, the constant presence of flies and mosquitoes, and the close proximity of domestic animals such as dogs and cattle. If standards slip then illness or accidents such as scalds or burns, quickly follow. Health education is a way of impressing upon village women the hazards of living in these harsh conditions and how they and their families can stay healthy.
Dr Mishra continually monitors conditions and general health in the many small villages surrounding Snehalaya.
