Our Vision Statement ‘to support charitable causes in memory of Dru Hamm’

Who We Are

Dru Hamm was a friend to many and an enthusiastic supporter of and fundraiser for a number of local and world-wide charities. She was tragically killed on the 4th November 2009 and her loss is still greatly felt. The White Rose is a charity set up in her memory by Mark & Marcia Brabbs with the blessing and support of Dru’s family. Roses are a symbol of love and white roses were Dru’s favourite flower. The proceeds of this Fund will support charities and charitable causes much like Dru did and for many years to come. In this way, it is envisioned that Dru and the inspiration that she was and the work that she did will not be forgotten – neither on the Isle of Man where she lived and worked tirelessly and donated her time, talents and money nor in the many other parts of the world that her giving reached and that will be reached in future through the work of The White Rose.

We at The White Rose take pride in the fact of none of your donations will go to overhead costs or in administration fees. We will also not proceed with donations unless it is transparent where the disbursements from the charity are to go. The White Rose invites all of you who either attend our events or donate to the fund (or both) to be a part of something big – while doing something that may seem to you to be small - all in memory of Dru.

About Dru

Drusilla Jane Hamm

Dru was born with cerebral palsy and there were doubts that she would ever achieve much in her life. In fact, her parents were told to just leave her in hospital, go home and forget about her (as was done in those days). Instead, Dru’s mum Cherry and her dad Ken ignored this advice and vowed to never give up on her and with support from them and the rest of her family as well as with all of her own willpower, several operations and many hours of physiotherapy, Dru not only learned to walk but to drive a specially adapted car. She also attended University and qualified as a Certified Chartered Accountant. This stubborness in avoiding defeat was a quality that was to be seen throughout the all too few 38 years that Dru lived.

And Dru went on to achieve even more in her life through her tireless devotion to a number of charities and charitable causes; as one admirer put it: she was definitely someone who had a heart to help people. Dru was always thinking of others and often put their needs ahead of her own. She loved people and showed her love in many practical ways – even, and often, at cost to herself. Dru was a true inspiration to the many people that were fortunate enough to know her and also to those that learnt of her incredible determination and positive attitude towards others and towards life.
