Who we are
The Lung Cancer Fund (Isle of Man) started 20 years ago and is a charity that helps to fight Lung Cancer by raising money for research into this terrible disease. We also try to help people stop smoking. We are mainly a fund raising arm of The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation in Liverpool.
Our aims and objectives
- Research into early detection
- Smoking prevention
- Information and support to patients and carers
- Greater awareness.
The work we do
Over the years we have helped fund lots of research. Fund raising now is more difficult and as our money does go off the Island, we do find it difficult to raise as much money as we would like. If research could be done on the Island, or if we could fund anything that would help people with Lung Cancer on the Island we would do so, but this is not possible and the research done at The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation does help people on the Isle of Man.
The research has greatly improved over the years and recently The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, because of their research, got the UK Government to pilot a Lung Screening trial to try to diagnose Lung Cancer at an early stage.
So many people think that the only ones who get Lung Cancer are those who smoke, or who are elderly. This is completely untrue, there are a lot of reasons why people get Lung Cancer.
Many people die with Lung Cancer on the Island and we are looking to set up a patient and carer support group in the future. We are also going to have an open day in the summer of 2011, with a speaker from The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation with leaflets and information explaining our work.
Fundraising and Sponsorship
We are always grateful if you feel able to let us have a donation or support any of our functions. Perhaps you would consider donating something in memory of a relation or friend who died from Lung Cancer?
Legacies
Remembering the Lung Cancer Fund will help those now and in the future.
