Who we are
The Isle of Man Branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society was set up in 1976 to help everyone on the Island who had, or was affected by, Multiple Sclerosis (MS).  It grew from a small group meeting for coffee into the branch it is today with over 100 members made up of those with MS, their families and friends.

Multiple Sclerosis is the most common disabling, incurable, neurological condition affecting young adults.  Around 100,000 people in the UK have MS.  For some people, MS is characterised by periods of relapse and remission while for others it has a progressive pattern.  For everyone, it makes life unpredictable.

Our aims

  • To help anyone whose life is affected by Multiple Sclerosis (MS) by providing support, friendship and practical help
  • To encourage people affected by MS including carers, families and friends to attain their full potential and improve their quality of life
  • To improving awareness, promote research into the causes of Multiple Sclerosis, relief of its many symptoms and, ultimately a cure and to publish the results

The work we do
The Isle of Man Branch is for people with MS, their families, their carers and their friends and supporters.  We provide practical and emotional support as well as financial support where appropriate.

Services provided locally include:

  • Access to a MS Support Officer
  • A Neurology Nurse Specialist in the Isle of Man
  • Improving awareness of the condition locally, and lobbying the local health authority to improve services for Isle of Man residents with MS
  • Provision of information and publications of the Multiple Sclerosis Society
  • A regular local newsletter to keep people with MS informed
  • Social and educational meetings
  • Financial assistance towards certain items of equipment and other requests
  • Contribution towards the research funding of the national Multiple Sclerosis Society

We have excellent links with the DHSS, and can influence how services are developed to improve services for people with MS on the Isle of Man.

Together with the DHSS we have put together an information booklet, this is distributed to everyone with MS on the Island.  The booklet contains all services available and useful telephone numbers.

We have a branch committee which meets monthly at the Manx Foundation for the Physically Disabled, Masham Court, Victoria Road, Douglas.

How you can help
To achieve much of what we do we depend on donations and volunteers.  Every single contribution makes a measurable difference to the lives of people with MS.

Volunteer  Volunteers make a vital contribution giving time and support to our service users, while others raise funds or lend their considerable weight to our campaigns.

Corporate  Corporate volunteering and fundraising is always welcomed. Please contact us if you are a business looking to support a local or national charity for people with MS.  We are happy to explore opportunities and ideas with you.

Donations  A donation can be made via our PayPal donate button.
